Nomex® is the brand name of an inherently flame-resistant material manufactured by DuPont™. This means that its flame resistance will not diminish during the life of the fibre – it cannot be washed out or worn away. This material is used to make heat resistant and flame retardant clothing and equipment for race-car drivers, pilots, military personnel, industrial workers, fire-fighters, astronauts and more.

Flame resistance.
Even though Nomex will burn when you hold a flame up to it, it will stop burning as soon as the heat source is removed. When exposed to flame, Nomex fibres expand and become more dense, forming a protective barrier between the skin and the heat source. This protective barrier will only decrease when the temperature drops, giving the wearer vital extra seconds of protects during emergency situations.
Temperature resistance.
Nomex can withstand a maximum continuous operating temperature of 400°F (204°C). This heat resistant material will not melt, drip, or support combustion. Its molecular structure prevents heat from passing through. Due to its great heat resistant properties, Nomex is also often used for oven gloves.
Long lifespan.
When properly stored and maintained, Nomex clothing and equipment is highly durable and can last up to five years. Nomex clothing should be cleaned properly and periodically to maintain thermal protection and to ensure that no oils, soils, greases, or other flammable substances are present when the equipment is worn
